Abstract
Many different studies about synoptic meteorology and climatology pointed out that as a massive prominence the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau have an important influence on the weather and climate of China, as well as on the general circulation over Asia and the Northern Hemisphere. In order to study the heating of the atmosphere by the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau ground and the distribution features of the surface heat source, it is necessary to understand the energy budget over the plateau. Thus, during the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau Meteorological Science Experiment (QXPMEX) from May to August 1979 in the same period as FEEG, the six fixed-point stations carried out exploratory observations. The radiation measurement near the ground is one of the scientific explorations mentioned above. These six exploring stations were set up not only with an eye toward their geographic distribution, but also toward the features of the underlying surface, the natural landscape belt and climatic conditions over the Plateau. A control station was established in Nanjing on the eastern plain of China. The positions of the stations and the date of observations are given in Table 1, and the observational items and instruments used are shown in Table 2. Measurements were taken every two hours from 0400 h to 2000 h in the local mean time and only once at 0000 h in the nighttime.
