Abstract

It is a fact that not all people with schizophrenia respond equally well to all treatments. In circling back to the principles of evidence-based medicine, we need to recognize the uniqueness of individuals and that “one size does not fit all.” The first step in assessing treatment response or lack thereof is the comprehensive and accurate identification of barriers to successful treatment. This may include partial or non-adherence, alcohol or substance use, or inadequate antipsychotic doses or inadequate antipsychotic plasma levels.
