Abstract
Cardiac trauma can be accidental (in the vast majority of cases, related to motor vehicle accidents, and also, occasionally, caused by falls, aggression, etc.) or iatrogenic (mainly CPR, where there is associated trauma to the ribs, lungs, esophagus, etc.). Iatrogenic aortic dissection (after left catheterization), PT (after right catheterization), MR post-PMV, and coronary dissection or rupture after PCI have all been discussed in the corresponding chapters. The present section is dedicated to a discussion of accidental trauma to the heart.
