Abstract
Finite element equations for elasticity problems are derived from the variational principle based on minimum potential energy. A stiffness matrix for a simple triangular element is obtained. It is shown that assembly of a global finite element matrix and vectors can be performed through matrix multiplications using element matrices and vectors.
