Atrial tachycardias are not frequent if atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter are excluded (see corresponding chapters). The types of atrial tachycardia differ in regard to morphology of the p wave, atrial rate, atrioventricular (AV) conduction, duration of the arrhythmia, hemodynamic consequences, electrophysiologic mechanism, and etiology.
In all atrial tachycardias, the p waves precede the QRS complex, but p morphology is different from sinusal p waves. Most atrial tachycardias are regular. Based on clinical significance, atrial tachycardias can be classified as listed in the following text.
