Abstract

The demographic shift towards an older population [1] and urbanization with subsequent change in diet and physical activity patterns [2] are resulting in rise of chronic noncommunicable diseases across the world. A majority of patients suffering from diabetes and hypertension—primary risk factors for development of chronic kidney disease (CKD)—now reside in economically developing nations [3, 4].
