Abstract
Urolithiasis is the most common cause of upper urinary tract obstruction prompting patients to urgently seek medical attention. Other etiologies capable of causing upper urinary obstruction are less common but may present similarly to stones. Healthcare providers must be aware of less common causes of obstruction to expedite proper patient evaluation and treatment. Etiologies other than stones often have a more chronic presentation and clues to making the correct diagnosis can often found by taking a thorough patient history. Causes of upper urinary tract obstruction other than stones will be described and the initial treatment for each condition outlined in this chapter.
