Abstract
Rumination syndrome is a functional gastrointestinal disorder that is increasingly recognized in otherwise healthy adolescents. It is more common in girls and often is misdiagnosed as gastroesophageal reflux disease or gastroparesis. Diagnosis is based on recognition of the typical symptoms which usually involve regurgitation soon after eating with cessation of emesis at night and hours after meals. Successful treatment often requires a multidisciplinary effort with behavioral modifications and biofeedback training.
