Abstract
The importance of history and physical examination of the cervical spine in increasing successful treatment outcomes in pain management cannot be overstated. A cervical spine history should be systematic and comprehensive, which may reveal “red flags.” Physical examination involves inspection, palpation, range of motion, neurologic examination, special tests, and examination of related areas. A comprehensive cervical H&P that indentifies anatomic and physiologic pain generation is a valuable diagnostic tool that can lead to better treatment outcomes.
