Abstract
Kidney transplantation is the treatment of choice for patients with end-stage renal disease. Annually there are more kidney transplants performed than any other organ transplantation. Postoperative care of kidney transplant recipients is complex and their management usually involves multidisciplinary teams of medical specialists, transplant surgeons, and anesthesiologists. To care for these patients one must have a fundamental understanding of immunosuppressive agents and become familiar with common postoperative surgical and medical complications.
