ERCP and EUS

Abstract

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has evolved from being a purely diagnostic modality at its birth, more than 40 years ago, to become a predominantly therapeutic procedure today. We have witnessed significant advances in both diagnostic and therapeutic utilities of this procedure. With these advances, however, we have seen an unfortunate increase in numbers and types of complications and the resultant medico-legal sequelae. It is essential that the endoscopist have a thorough understanding of the indications, risks, and complications involved in performing this range of procedures.
