Anchoring Percutaneous Leads During Permanent Device Placement

  • Chapter
Atlas of Implantable Therapies for Pain Management

Abstract

In many settings, the education and training of an implanting physician for spinal cord stimulation (SCS) focuses on the preoperative evaluation, needle placement, lead direction and location, and overall surgical technique as critical parts of a good long-term outcome. In the best of hands, all of these issues are important, but the procedure is made durable with the action of properly anchoring the lead. This chapter focuses on this component of SCS placement.
