Abstract

In this paper we propose a modification of the Loughin–Noble permutation test of significance of factorial effects for unreplicated orthogonal factorial designs, Loughin and Noble (Technometrics 39(2):180–190, 1997), when orthogonal factorial designs are replaced by D-optimal saturated designs. We also propose a new permutation mechanism that uses nonisomorphic D-optimal designs instead of permutations to generate the reference distribution. The results of a simulation study are also presented in order to evaluate the behaviour of the proposed method both under H 0 and in power.
