Abstract
This chapter examines the history of simulation-based learning and the utility of trauma simulation as an education tool for medical personnel. The use of mannequin simulators as an instrument to enhance the development of technical, behavioral, and cognitive skills has been used in the medical field for the several decades. In the setting of trauma, multidisciplinary teams composed of a variety of subspecialties are a key component in most hospitals which set out to improve trauma care. The use of computer-based human patient simulators in mock team-training scenarios has emphasized the importance of team dynamics and communication skills which are crucial for successfully caring for trauma patients.
