Abstract

In its broadest definition, inorganometallic chemistry appropriates a large share of both inorganic and organometallic chemistry much of which can be classified as some type of metal coordination chemistry. As there are many excellent volumes extant in which these chemistries are described,(1,2) there is no need here to repeat or summarize it. Indeed, in the following we build upon these strong foundations in order to draw new connections. But first it is necessary to distinguish the ligand-based chemistry to be discussed herein from that of classical coordination chemistry, on the one hand, and that of inorganometallic cluster chemistry, which is discussed in the chapter immediately following, on the other hand.
