The Biofeedback Treatment of Tension Headache

  • Chapter
Biofeedback

Abstract

Leviton (1978), in commenting on the epidemiology of headache, believes it is helpful to identify the unrecognized need, or the extent to which headache is distributed among the population at large, and the recognized need, or the proportion of individuals reporting to health care facilities seeking treatment for headache. Community studies conducted in the United States and elsewhere reveal nearly all individuals can be expected to experience a headache within a given one-year period. As many as 15% of males and 30% of females will experience headaches during this period that are fairly frequent or intense. Headache is the primary complaint in from 1% to 8% of patients seeking outpatient health care.
