Abstract
The first bent-crystal experiment was performed at Dubna in 1979,1 where it was demonstrated that high-energy planar channeled particles would, to a certain extent, follow the bent planes and be deflected an angle equal to the bending angle of the crystal. The effect has been further examined at CERN,2 Fermilab,3 and in the Soviet Union4 in order to establish the possible use of bent crystals as beam elements in high-energy machines.
