Abstract
One of the most important applications of quantum mechanics is to describe the behavior of a particle moving under the influence of a central force field. Not only is the problem of pedagogical interest in its own right (Coulomb field, isotropic harmonic oscillator, etc.), but it is also the starting point for perturbation calculations for more realistic situations in atomic and nuclear physics. Angular momentum eigenfunctions have a wide application at all levels of quantum physics. Some examples will follow.
