Abstract
The various scenarios involved in sexual encounters and relationships within the prison setting are as diverse and individualistic as those on the streets. As we mentioned in the preceding chapter, one overriding factor within the prison setting is the deemphasis of affection and emotional involvement as opposed to physical and sexual considerations. Whereas sexual and physical relationships are condoned within the convict code, emotional or affectional attachments are seen as a sign of weakness. The irony is that in this hard, emotionally cold, and even hostile environment, everyone is starved for affection, although no one would ever admit to it. Furthermore any two people who are able to “find each other” and develop a mutually fulfilling or affectionate relationship would create a great deal of resentment, jealousy, and open hostility. Among this immature, unstable population, that kind of hostility could lead to trouble.
