Abstract
Local charge compensation centers have been observed in EPR in alkaline earth fouoride crystals which had been doped simultaneously with GdF3 and MF (M = Li, Na, K, Rb and Ag). These centers are orthorhombic (C2v) and the principal x, y and z-directions are aligned along the crystallographic [001], [110] and [110] directions, respectively. These charge compensation complexes have been studied systematically with EPR, electric field effect (EFE) in EPR and ENDOR. Employing a computer program we have calculated the ionic positions in the neighborhood of the complex by minimizing the potential energy of the system.
