Abstract

We have now well-developed techniques for growing single crystals from aqueous solutions and melts, but only a few types of compound are represented by crystals grown by these methods, and there is therefore considerable importance in developing methods of hydrother-mal synthesis for single crystals, because only in that way can one produce crystals of silicates, carbonates, germanates, and certain types of sulfides and oxides.
