Part of the book series: Contemporary Topics in Immunobiology ((CTI,volume 2))

Abstract

Immunological memory is a defining property of the immune response. It occurs in both cellular and humoral immunity and is presumably dependent on the generation of “memory cells” as a result of initial interaction between immunocompetent small lymphocytes and antigen. It is specific and long lasting. The type and extent of memory depend on various factors, such as the form of antigen given, its mode of presentation, its dose, the use of adjuvants, and the interval of time between priming and challenge.
