Abstract

Two mechanisms play an important role in the function and adaptive capability of the manual control system, namely, the postural control system and the voluntary control system. The postural system, a feedback system which functions to maintain the posture or position of the body and its limbs, is essentially a position servo loop with position sensors,motor elements, and some data processing. This servosystem is controlled by higher centers which both provide reference inputs and control the parameters of some of the elements of this system, as shown in Fig. 1.
