Abstract
Atassi (1977) in a series of elegant experiments defined the three antigenic determinants on the disulfide-containing protein lysozyme. They are all conformationally dependent sites and each consists of 5 or 6 topographically adjacent amino acids across the surface of the molecule. As surface residues, the amino acids involved are primarily hydrophilic. It seems likely to us that the receptor binding site(s) on hCG and other glycoprotein hormones will be similar.
