Abstract

In the normal adult male about 25–30% of the total iron content is present in iron stores, the amount depending upon the balance between iron absorption from the gut and iron loss. Because of the greater physiological requirements of women during reproductive life, their stores are usually smaller than those of men (Weinfeld, 1964).
