Abstract
During the breakdown of hemoglobin virtually all the iron is conserved and re-utilized for the synthesis of the various iron-containing compounds (Moore and Dubach, 1956). The globin decomposes to amino acids, and the porphyrin ring is split and converted to bilirubin (Fig. 13/1). .
