Abstract

A drug is, of course, given to a patient in order to produce a beneficial effect. In some instances, an adverse drug reaction may result; urticaria following penicillin administration is the best example of such a reaction. An adverse reaction may also result when a drug is used as a preservative, as a filler, or as a dye or stabilizer in preparing another drug, food, or cosmetic. These reactions are usually classified as allergic or nonallergic. Another classification is the clinical form of the adverse cutaneous reaction.
