Abstract
This paper compares the code optimisation techniques used on the Cray T3D and T3E-900 systems. The Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre (EPCC) runs a national super-computing service on behalf of the academic and research community in the UK including HPCI consortia. This service runs on a 512-PE Cray T3D and has been recently upgraded by the addition of a T3E-900 system with 256 application processors. Significant expertise has been developed using the T3D system since its installation in 1994. Since the installation of the T3E several HPCI consortia have migrated codes from the T3D to the T3E.
