Abstract

As an elaboration on the widespread use of guarantees in both private and public finance today, this section presents a survey of situations where guarantees explicitly or implicitly playa major role. It will become obvious from skimming that list that optimal control of guarantees can be an important competitive advantage for some companies, even a necessity when competition is severe, and, in the area of public finance, can save taxpayers significant amounts of money.
