Abstract

This chapter describes a model integrated meat chicken company producing 1.3 million broilers per week. This size was chosen to optimize the various elements of production and processing regarding capacities and efficiencies of operation. It is estimated that there are approximately 25 to 30 companies of this size or larger in the United States. In most cases, companies with more than 1.3 million broilers per week have more than one processing plant.
