Abstract
Maintenance of personal peacefulness, that is, of both inner and interpersonal well-being, requires collaborative dialogue and conflict resolution skills. These skills enable people to discuss differences in a way that leads to the creation of win–win solutions, that is, to action plans responsive to all the underlying concerns of everyone involved. Collaborative skills can be applied to the resolution of conflicts that occur within a person, between people, or between a person and a situation, and also to healing from upsets that have occurred from prior conflicts. Without collaborative talking, listening, and shared problem-solving skills, poorly handled conflicts lead to anger, depression, anxiety, or escape into addictions, which are the four main pathways away from personal peacefulness.
