Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the group model workshop and facilitation. The chapter covers the initial preparation before a workshop session, facilitation issues that can arise during a session, and debriefing immediately after the session. A conceptual framework is provided for understanding the different team roles in relation to managing boundary objects during group model building sessions including the special emphasis in community-based system dynamics on educating participants in the principles of SD. General tips on facilitation are covered along with techniques for managing situations when things go wrong. The chapter concludes with a discussion about role of recorders, consolidating insights and leading a debrief session.

It is only when she is on the other side and the shell cracks open and the lid from her eyes lifts that she sees things in a different perspective. It is only then that her consciousness expands a tiny notch, another rattle appears on the rattlesnake tail and the added growth slightly alters the sounds she makes. Suddenly the repressed energy rises, makes decisions connects with conscious energy and a new life begins [(AnzaldĂșa (Borderlands the new mestiza. San Francisco, CA: Aunt Lute Books; 1987.)].
