Abstract

While diagnosis of bipolar disorder is not expected to fall within the duties of school professionals, psycho-educational assessment may be required for a child or adolescent with this diagnosis (or suspected of having this disorder) access to educational opportunities. School personnel must be capable of and prepared to engage in those activities. While a level of expertise is expected for psychologists in general assessment practices, specific knowledge is needed to engage in the psycho-educational assessment of students with a bipolar disorder.
