Abstract
Primary cutaneous lymphomas (PCL) represent a heterogeneous group of skin neoplasms, which sometimes can pose difficulties in their diagnosis and in the differential diagnosis with benign lymphoid proliferations.
This chapter analyses the main problems in evaluating lymphoid infiltrates of the skin, with particular attention to the distinction between benign and malignant proliferation, and addresses the most frequent diagnostic challenges in everyday practice. Moreover, the advantages and disadvantages of the available diagnostic tools have been detailed, with particular reference to the immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology techniques.
Finally, the most common entities between T-cell and B-cell lymphoid neoplasms primary of the skin have been described in detail, according to the updated classification schemes.
