Abstract
Kosovar citizens have gone through very difficult situations, including the violent conflicts throughout the history, which was characterized by many problems of different nature including their physical safety. But with hard work and their commitment as well as strong support of the international community they have managed to overcome these problems. Now, Kosovo faces different challenges and trends of criminality similarly as other countries of the Balkan region. Historically since the end of World War II development of policing in Kosovo may be divided into three different periods of time. The new state of Kosovo has managed to build a police force that is based on democratic principles: equality, honor, transparency, and nondiscrimination. Kosovo Police acts according to the law on police and is organized in the central and local level, offering security services in the entire territory of Kosovo. Despite the fact that it is a new police force with the limited experience and material opportunities, Kosovo Police is committed, trained, and prepared to face all kinds/types of threats to public safety which may arise.
