Abstract
The chapter analyses the last few decades of policing in Hungary, including a short country info section regarding police organization, structure, and function. Crime and disorder trends, police training and educational systems, and the public opinion on police also helps to draw a picture about this age of policing in Hungary. The main findings summarize some problems relating to policing in Hungary today, and outline possible future developments in this area of public service. The constitutional problem in the essence of police work (military type or not), the role of municipality policing, the difficulties of examining police with the tools of science are well-known problems of policing today. With detailed introduction of the new police organs (e.g., TEK –Terrorelhárítási Központ, in English: Counter-terrorism Center), this chapter provides an overview on the policing in Hungary in the last two decades.
