Abstract

In this concluding chapter, I summarise how exploring the lived experience of older people dependent on care, through both my innovative phenomenologically grounded analytical framework and my use of PCS analysis in an innovative context, has provided insights which build on existing knowledge in the field to highlight the importance of appreciating differences of perspective in relation to meaning making. I suggest that both my analysis of the current literature, and the results of this empirical study, reinforce my argument that, while significant dependency and reciprocity are not incompatible, where they are seen as such by policy makers and care providers, the lives of those in receipt of care can become spiritually diminished.
