Abstract
All living organisms are continuously exposed to the deleterious risk of being “attacked” by both pathogenic substances and toxins, or other organisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasitic protozoans. As if this was not enough, sometimes usually harmless substances known as allergens are able to stimulate the immune system, as we review in this issue, promoting hypersensitivity allergic reactions.
