Abstract
This text terminates the theoretical Part I. Its intention is to briefly summarise the main achievements, indicate the open problems, and to point out the direction of future research in collisionless shock theory.

The present volume arose from an ISSI Working Group effort on “The Physics of Collisionless Shocks in the Heliosphere”, starting in 2007.
