Notes

  1. 1.

Given Orbital’s recent run of launch failures, NASA will no doubt be hoping for a change in the company’s fortunes; on March 4th, 2011, the agency’s Glory atmospheric research satellite was lost due to a mechanical failure on an Orbital Taurus XL rocket. This failure followed the February 24th, 2009, failure of the Orbiting Carbon Observatory due to a similar Taurus XL malfunction. The estimated loss to NASA for the failures was close to US$700 million.
