Abstract
Moore’s law describes a long-term trend in the history of computing hardware (Wikipedia 2011). Specifically, it discusses the fact that the number of transistors that can be placed inexpensively on an integrated circuit doubles approximately every 2 years and that this trend has continued for more than half a century and is expected to continue until at least 2015 or 2020. In the last few years, let alone decades, we have seen a huge increase in the variety, style, type and functionality of technology solutions permeate all areas of our environment. Hence, we should not be surprised at the possible technology solutions that are waiting just around the corner; truly our imaginations are the only limitations to the possible solutions. An important question then becomes what does this mean for healthcare organisations and healthcare delivery globally? How choices should be made between the different solutions and options. These questions are not easy and to help them address this final section of the book serves to provide a miscellany of chapters that discuss important aspects regarding developments and possibilities in the area of pervasive technologies and knowledge management in healthcare contexts.
