Abstract

Chapter 7 addresses new challenges for sexual medicine, such as the impact of the internet and the new media on the psychosexual development of minors. Different problems may arise particularly for vulnerable adolescents from sexual harassment such as “cyber bullying” and “online grooming” which may result in sexual traumatization. Due to their epidemic extent, child abuse and sexual violence, respectively traumatization and the necessary therapeutic approaches for victims are a particular challenge for sexual medicine. Short- and long-term consequences, as well as the effects of child sexual abuse (CSA) on sexuality in general and being a cause for sexual disorders are discussed, as well as current therapeutic procedures and their outcome. It is explained that sexual medicine offers primary prevention aspects by its specialized knowledge concerning sexual preference disorders, particularly pedophilia. The Prevention Project Dunkelfeld (PPD) is presented and its approach has proven successful: There are help-seeking, pedophilically inclined men who are motivated, reachable and do participate in the programme.
