Abstract
California is the leading state in the nation in agricultural production and agriculture is our major industry. We use a large percentage of the agricultural chemicals applied in the nation. We have a substantial portion of the population of employed farm workers in this country, and we recognize our responsibility for providing a safe working environment for these workers. Our Department has the responsibility in California for the enforcement of laws and regulations concerning the sale and use of pesticides and these include laws and regulations that are designed to protect persons who handle and are exposed to pesticides and their residues. We are fully supportive of all appropriate and necessary measures to protect farm workers from exposure to pesticides.
