Abstract

The vibrational modes of a nine-atomic unit X’Y’ZY3X3 of symmetry C3v have been derived and investigated. Intensities of the infrared fundamentals have been evaluated. The results are applied to the vibrational spectra of fused silica and sodium silicate glasses and are found to account satisfactorily for the observed bands.

This work has been carried out at the Solid State and Materials Research Center during a leave of absence to The American University in Cairo.
