Abstract

For almost two decades, the United States has been involved in controversy over the tactical use of herbicides in the Vietnam Conflict. Few environmental or occupational health issues have received the sustained national attention that has been focused on “Agent Orange”. The Veterans Administration in cooperation with other Federal agencies in the United States Government has initiated extensive health studies of veterans exposed to Agent Orange and its dioxin contaminant, 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) during the Vietnam Conflict. The basis for resolving the Agent Orange controversy must in large measure stem from the results of scientific inquiry.
