Abstract
Currently a controversy exists regarding the roles of bone marrow transplantation and chemotherapy in the treatment of acute nonlymphocytic leukemia (ANLL). While each therapeutic approach has dedicated proponents, it is clear that these therapeutic modalities should not be considered as competitors but rather as alternate and complimentary therapies. This paper will attempt to review each approach impartially, and then propose an approach to the treatment of patients with ANLL. The discussion will be limited to patients who enter complete remission at the time of initial diagnosis.
