Abstract

Matter consists of charged particles, the negative electrons and the positive nuclei; this fundamental discovery, due to Rutherford, belongs to the mile-stones in the history of physics. The famous communication of Rutherford “Scattering of α;- and β-rays and the structure of atoms” was presented on April 7, 1911 to the Philosophical Society in Manchester.
