Abstract
We adopt the convention of indexing vectors and matrices using functional notation rather than subscripts or superscripts. Thus, for example, x(3) represents the third component of the vector x, and M(i,j) represents the value at the i th row and j th column of the matrix M. We denote the transpose of the vector x by xT.
