Part of the book series: Rochester Series on Environmental Toxicity ((RSET))

Abstract

This chapter represents a synopsis of nickel toxicology, with particular emphasis on biological monitoring of persons exposed to nickel compounds or alloys from occupational, environmental, and iatrogenic sources. The discussions in this chapter are condensed from recent reviews by the author and his collaborators (Sunderman, 1984a,b; 1986a,b; Sunderman et al., 1986a). For additional information on biological effects of nickel readers may consult monographs and articles by Bencko (1983); Brown and Sunderman (1980, 1985); Costa and Heck (1985); Leonard et al. (1981); Mas et al. (1985); Mushak (1984); Norseth (1984); Nriagu (1980); Oskarsson (1984); Rigaut (1983); Raithel and Schaller (1981); Schaller et al. (1982); and Sunderman et al. (1984a).
