Abstract
In this paper, I have confined myself to the research going on at present in parasitology in Britain and certain countries in northern Europe. It is very much a personal view, and it is by no means a comprehensive or scholarly analysis of the subject. I believe, however, that parasitological research in these countries is in a very active and healthy state and that the major threat to advance lies in the current difficult international and national economic situation which has had and is having severe effects on the ability of the universities to recruit new staff, and thus to renew and replenish the intellectual vigour of their research effort.
